Frequently Asked Questions

Family Recovery Strategists does not work with any health insurance policies, either in network or out of network.  We build relationships with our clients on a monthly basis, with an initial minimum 60-day commitment.  Most of our clients continue services for an average of six months.  Monthly fees range, starting at $3,500, depending upon a number of factors, including intensity and duration of services.  Given that our work is highly individualized, the starting point in determining your monthly fee is to schedule a complimentary initial consultation appointment.

Family Recovery Strategists is based in South Florida, although many of our clients live elsewhere.  We facilitate meetings in our Delray Beach office, via Zoom, or in some cases by making concierge visits to your home or office.  If in-person meetings are requested in geographic locations that require travel, additional fees will apply.

First of all, you are in good company.  The majority of people struggling with substance use and mental health issues have distorted perceptions that prevent them from seeing their conditions accurately and accepting help.  Therefore, facing resistance to one extent or another is a largely unavoidable part of your role.  This is where our skillset and experience come in to play.  We will advise you every step of the way, identifying entry points to impact your loved one’s decisions and guiding you in using your own influence in the most effective ways.  That may mean education, boundary setting, following through on consequences, reinforcing positive changes, engaging in family therapy, staging a formal intervention, or a number of other approaches.  The truth is that you have tremendous power to compel a shift in your loved one’s motivation for positive change.  At the same time, you also have the power to inadvertently sway them in the opposite direction.  Our guidance will ensure that you harness your influence in the ways that best serve your loved one’s delicate recovery process.

Research shows that timing matters, and it matters a lot.  The earlier a person gets help the more likely they are to recover.  The longer you wait to get involved, the more likely it is that your loved one will have more difficult and prolonged battle to fight.  Even if your concerns are mild, you may be in a window of opportunity to take action that could prevent the progression of a budding problem.  Whether you are observing subtle changes in your loved one, or sudden alarming changes, we will put your experience in to clinical perspective and provide you with direction accordingly.  This doesn’t necessarily mean taking extreme action.  Some circumstances allow for a more patient approach while others do not.  But if you have found yourself on this site, chances are that action of some sort is warranted.  A brief professional relationship with us could save you and your loved one years of unnecessary suffering through awareness building and proactive planning.  The longer you wait to gain an understanding of warning signs and symptoms, the more likely your loved one’s struggles will progress in severity and, very unfortunately, that consequences will progress for them as well.

During our assessment phase, when we will gather information from all available sources, we will likely be able to ascertain whether such an intensive level of care is indicated.  If so, this is a time when it is absolutely crucial to have an autonomous, knowledgeable and skilled professional providing education and direction in choosing a facility that is the best fit and provides top quality of care.  Without such guidance, many suffering individuals end up spending 30-90 days being warehoused at facilities that are not properly addressing their needs.  There are many factors that contribute to this unfortunate reality, and among them is the tremendous struggle that families have in discerning between thousands of options across the country.  Indicators of quality treatment programs include use of evidenced based practices, trained and licensed staff, personalized care, family involvement, and comprehensive continuing care planning.  If you are going to invest financially, mentally and emotionally in a program, you will want to make that choice based on input from impartial experts.

Many families tend to believe in the cultural stereotype that the only solution to addiction and mental illness inevitably requires going to treatment at a high level of care.  Although that is certainly the case for many, it is not always necessary or even indicated.  We strongly believe that one size does not fit all.  Our depth of understanding, experience, and commitment to creative problem solving allow us to consider a plethora of non-treatment approaches, ultimately creating a plan that works best for you and your loved one.  And, as your loved one progresses through the stages of early recovery, we will support you in making indicated adjustments to your approach.

While your loved one is in treatment, it is imperative that you are shaping a plan for how you will support them during and beyond this level of care.  In this sense, support means many different things.  Even the best of programs will not spend hours each week focused on you.  They will include you of course in your loved one’s care, but you are not meant to be their priority.  The reality is, though, that because you are absolutely vital to your loved one’s success, you need to be learning as much as you can about the type of support they and how those needs will soon evolve as the segue out of a treatment setting.  Weekly communication with a program staff member – most of which will be spent updating you on your loved one’s progress – may not suffice to prepare you.  Therefore, in order to truly guarantee that you are doing your part to not only further your loved one’s recovery but also avoid inadvertently undermining it, you need a professional designated exclusively to you.  If we work with you while your loved one is in treatment, we coordinate with the treatment program to ensure that everyone is on the same page with messaging and strategy.  Having your own dedicated professional support will be even more important during the transitional phase when your loved one is titrating to a lower level of care.  It is more common than not for regression to take place during these times, and the decisions that you have can literally make or break whether they continue to grow and heal or whether the regression takes you all back to square one.

Singular Focus

You are our client and our ultimate priority is that you make the most strategically indicated decisions as you seek to influence your loved one’s recovery.  Unlike many practices that may seem comparable, we do not dilute our energy by also providing ancillary services such as case management, psychotherapy, psychiatry, interventions, or treatment placement.  We deliberately limit our practice in this way in order to concentrate entirely on delivering the highest quality specialized guidance.

Autonomous Operation

We do not work for any other companies,  nor do we affiliate ourselves with any other organizations or providers.  Our work is entirely independent and you will never have to worry about conflicts of interest leading to clouded judgment. This is part of what allows us to maintain professional integrity as the utmost value in our practice.

Personalized Care

Addictions and mental illnesses are rigidly defined by fixed criteria.  Families, on the other hand, cannot be understood nor treated in the same way.  We know and respect that your circumstances are unique and complex.  Expect to receive custom-tailored service that is uniquely crafted to match your needs.  While the structure and foundation of our approach is consistent in every case, we pride ourselves on individualizing the care you receive.  As far as we are concerned, there is no other way.
